SELECT TYPE of WOOD

• Select dimension lumber or beams


• Select wood type listed - click on the radio button
    OR
• Enter values for custom lumber

CUSTOM LUMBER (optional)

At the bottom row, enter the name of the wood.
Highlight the text and replace it as you wish.

Enter base reference design values from NDS table 4, pounds per square inch:

• Enter bending, Fb
• Enter shear parallel to grain, Fv
• Enter modulus of elasticity, E (1.0 means 1,000,000 psi)

ADJUSTED VALUES

Adjusted values are shown after clicking on Recalculate. In this example, Fb has been multiplied by 1.20 times 1.15 See Basic 2013 manual for calculation details.

RETURN to 3-BEAM

After changing the wood type, return to the Beam module to check the beam size.

If the size is changed, the size factor, and maximum adjusted Fb, will be recalculated automatically at the Beam module.
